February was a historic day for Oregon estheticians besides the installation of a new governor. The Health Care Committee held a public hearing for House Bill 2642, the legislation that establishes a new board to govern a new certification for estheticians working with lasers and other light based energy devices. The hearing was very well attended and many public comments of support were entered by consumers, physicians and estheticians.
Amendments are being drafted to provide additional clarification to the Bill and they will be posted here once they are in their final form. They more clearly define the scope of practice, provide pathways for certification, ensure consumer safety and allow grandfathering in options for estheticians already working with lasers.
